Having graciously hosted one of the matches in last year’s Calling Spots Championship Tournament (Chuck Mambo defeated Tel Banham, who was then known as Rocky Future) we were more than happy to agree to their GM Dan James’ request when he asked if the Calling Spots Championship could be up for grabs as HT Drake takes on Sexy Kevin Lloyd. Oh and the BWE Heavyweight Championship is also on the line so this is TITLE vs TITLE! Will HT Drake add BWE gold to his resume or will Sexy Kev become only the second person to hold the CS title?
This did make me have possibly the most random thought I have ever had while writing a preview, does a man who only wears trousers with velcro seams really need two belts? Then I realised that not only is Kev the BWE heavyweight champion he is also the world champion at Pro Wrestling 4 U and the current FutureShock tag team champion. If this man is defeats Drake he genuinely may have more belts than trousers.
As exciting as that match appears it would be doing a disservice to the rest of the roster to not mention the rest of the matches that will be happening this Saturday.
Tel Banham takes on ‘Gentleman’ John McGregor. Usually it doesn’t matter where in the country he performs Banham is always amongst the most hated person on any card, his attitude and general demeanor make fans boo him relentlessly, I say usually as if there is one place he may get a positive reaction then surely it is in his hometown of Halifax, where this show will be held. This match will likely be a heated encounter given the history between the two, Banham and McGregor last crossed paths in a BWE ring in March in a number one contendership match where the winner would be entered into a fatal four way for the BWE Championship. Banham won but had to be replaced when he broke his collarbone, McGregor was chosen as his replacement but before the fatal four way Banham called him out and blindsided him with a challenge to a match with James Drake which he accepted and lost and given the beating sustained wasn’t able to compete in the 4 way for the shot at the title. McGregor has been waiting since that show in April to get his hands on Banham and even interrupted Dan James during a recent recording to demand the match. Knowing Banham as I do I am sure he has loved the feeling of being under McGregor’s skin for the last six months.
Little Miss Roxxy will be defending her Bombshells Championship against Miss Xia Brookside. Both competitors have spent 2017 increasing their reputation and showing the world how talented they are, Brookside did this by embarking on her first tour of Japan (where she worked for Stardom) and Roxxy did this by debuting for Insane Championship Wrestling and continuing to dominate the Northeast wrestling scene. This match will be fantastic.
Liam Slater versus Rampage Brown. The styles of these two guys could not be more different. Liam Slater is able to effortlessly blend a fast, high flying style with traditional British technical wrestling and usually does it with a smile on his face. Rampage Brown hits people really hard, throws them around and then drops them on their head, he does smile at times but only when inflicting extreme pain on his opponent. These two have met in various promotions and always tear the house down and have a match of the night contender. I’m sure this will be no different.
The final match announced is The Lion Kings versus Sons Of Ulaid in a tournament matchup for the BWE Tag Team Championships. The Lions consist of Sebb Strife and Ugandan Warrior and have worked for several promotions in Yorkshire and have earned the nickname the “mane attraction” (I love a good pun). Sons of Ulaid are based in the Northeast and this is their BWE wrestling debut. Ulaid are known for their unique and frankly sadistic style which is best summed up by watching Their promo video for the show. Scared and a little freaked out? Yeah that’s the normal response.
